Smoking Addiction! Why is it so hard to quit smoking?

by | Mai 31, 2024

“I will quit smoking after I finish this cigarette.” (I have never heard a lie more ridiculous than this)

Said “quit smoking” hundreds of times, but I have never stopped smoking for a day.

Why? Is it so Difficult to Quit Smoking?

After all, these two major “roadblocks” on the road to quitting smoking are difficult to deal with –

1. Physical addiction:

Inside cigarettes, there’s something you can’t stop craving — nicotine, a highly addictive substance, similar to heroin and cocaine. To put it bluntly, once you get addicted to smoking, it’s like taking drugs

1. Psychological addiction:

Smokers are often affected by psychological and social factors, such as:

Smoking behavior: will be strengthened into a “social tool” (“If you are a buddy, just smoke a cigarette together” sounds familiar);

Taking out cigarettes and lighting cigarettes: will be strengthened into a psychological addiction through constant repetition, making you fall into the scam of “smoking can relieve stress” step by step and unable to extricate yourself.

Want to quit smoking? The first step is to determine whether you are addicted to smoking.

If you have met 3 of these 6 criteria in the past year, you may have become addicted to smoking.

The brain is “manipulated” and has a strong desire to smoke.

The hands and mouth are out of control and it is difficult to control smoking behavior.

When you stop smoking or reduce the amount of smoking, sometimes you will experience withdrawal symptoms.

Tobacco tolerance appears. Before, one cigarette a day was enough, but now you need a pack a day to be satisfied.

You want to have a cigarette before doing anything, and you have no interest in other activities.

You know that smoking is harmful to your health, and you understand the reason, but you just can’t stop.

Harms of Smoking

1. The impact of long-term smoking on the body:

In China, more than 1 million people die from smoking every year, which means that 2 people die from smoking-related diseases every minute.

This is a man who smokes a pack of cigarettes a day for 10 years. Let’s diagnose what “mines” may be buried in him as a long-term smoker.

Tobacco use is the leading preventable cause of death. Smoking can lead to cancers of various organs, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, impotence, skin aging, etc.t

2. The harm of secondhand smoke:

In China, more than 100,000 people die from secondhand smoke every year. Did you know that secondhand smoke can be divided into mainstream smoke and sidestream smoke?

Guess which is more harmful, the smoke exhaled from the smoker’s mouth (1) or the burning cigarette in the hand (2)?

Which type of smoke is more harmful to humans

The sidestream smoke released by a lit cigarette is more harmful than the mainstream smoke inhaled and exhaled by the smoker.

3. The harm of third-hand smoke:

Do you only know about second-hand smoke? Haha, third-hand smoke is also a “host” that can penetrate everywhere.

Children’s respiratory immune system is not yet mature, so they are more susceptible to third-hand smoke. The father in the picture below just smoked indoors. Think about it! Which places are threatening to babies!

In addition, smoking in indoor public places, offices, meeting rooms, stairwells, toilets, and public transportation should be prohibited.

Quitting smoking with vape

Today is May 31st, which is also World No Tobacco Day. I hope that after reading this article, you can put down the cigarette in your hand. If you want to start quitting smoking, you can try to use vape to transition to replace cigarettes to achieve the goal of quitting smoking, or try nicotine replacement therapy, exercise more, use physical activities to relieve stress and anxiety when quitting smoking or seek psychological support or consultation.

For old smokers, I suggest using VECEE vape to transition first. The e-liquid in vaping is a mixture of vegetable glycerin (VG), propylene glycol (PG), flavorings, and optional nicotine. When the vape is heated, the liquid in the pod will turn into steam, and the user can inhale the steam to simulate the feeling of traditional cigarettes. Vape must contain nicotine to replace cigarettes. The nicotine concentration of vape is generally 0mg to 50mg. Later, nicotine can be slowly reduced to achieve an alternative method of quitting smoking.
